The Next Chapter
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of supporters around the world, the South Pacific WWII Museum has reached its USD $22,000 fundraising target, unlocking the USD $22,000 in matched funding from the Swire Group Charitable Trust.
That means USD $44,000 is now committed to the next stage of the Museum’s development — helping us create a dedicated Library and Research Centre, improve collection storage and provide new space to preserve and share the wartime history of Espiritu Santo and the wider Pacific.

What your support will create
The new Library and Research Centre will provide the Museum with much-needed space to care for its growing collection and make its historical resources more accessible to researchers, students, historians, authors, documentary makers and visiting families.
The project will help us:
- Preserve fragile documents, photographs and artefacts
- Provide access to rare material relating to the Pacific War
- Improve archival storage for our growing collection
- Support research into Espiritu Santo’s extraordinary wartime history
Create new opportunities to share these stories with visitors and future generations
Why Santo Matters
During World War II, Espiritu Santo became one of the largest Allied bases in the Pacific. Tens of thousands of servicemen and women passed through the island, while enormous airfields, hospitals, docks, fuel depots and supply facilities transformed Santo into a vital centre of the Allied war effort.
Much of that history still lies beneath the landscape, in the waters around the island and within family collections around the world.
The South Pacific WWII Museum exists to bring those stories together, preserve them and make them accessible for generations to come.
Reaching this fundraising target is an important milestone — but it is also the beginning of the next chapter.

The Journey Continues
Reaching this milestone is something we are incredibly proud of, but it is certainly not the end of the journey. There is still much more we want to achieve as the Museum continues to grow — from expanding our collections and exhibitions to improving our facilities, developing new educational programs and preserving more of Santo’s remarkable wartime history.
