Captain Elwood J. Euart Memorial Service
A message from the South Pacific WW2 Museum Committee members.
I believe you all know by now that the remains of Capt Elwood Euart who died on the 26th October 1942 after he rescued other troops trapped in the sinking SS President Coolidge, was recovered by US Army divers just before the Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu last year.
We had been corresponding with Capt Euart’s nephew Mr Vallee, who advised me that US military will perform a full military service for them on Rhode island on 30th and 31st August.
Mr Valle’s message said today.
“Just wanted to update you folks on the plans for Uncle Elwood’s services. We now know that the casket is being flown in from Hawaii this Saturday by military transport. My brother, myself and another cousin are going to be there when it arrives in Providence RI. Then there will be a military escort to the Funeral Home. Should be very exciting!!
Take care” Paul V
He’ll be buried with full military honours, next to his parents in Rhode island, and a few of our South Pacific WWII Museum members will be attending the ceremony.
The committee are planning to have a ceremony in Santo, Vanuatu for Capt Elwood Euart in his honour at his memorial, opposite Allan Power Dive Site with VMF will raise the US flag, we would like to ask you all to please attend. Please share this to your friends in Santo.
