Captain Elwood J Euart’s Memorial Service

Following the recovery of Elwood J Euart’s remains from the Coolidge, his body was flown back to Rhode Island for burial next to his parents, the late Mr Elwood Francis Aloysius and the late Mrs Winifred Casey Euart at the St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. On August 31, 2016, the same day as Captain Euart’s funeral was taking place in Rhode Island, members of  the Elwood J Euart Association gathered with the Vanuatu Mobile Force at the Captain Euart’s monument on Espiritu Santo, to honour his memory. The Monument was built by Captain Euart’s comrades after the tragedy, to honour their Captain, friend and hero. Captain Euart was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Purple Heart and the Rhode Island Cross and befittingly buried with full military honours.
